For the last few years, Harley-Davidson hasn’t been able to sell as many motorcycles as it would have liked to. Clearly, the American motorcycle company, which is known for its high-performance cruisers, is struggling to hit the right chords. Perhaps, that’s one of the main reasons why it started exploring different genres of bikes.
In 2018, Harley-Davidson revealed that it has 3 new motorcycles in the pipeline – a bobber, a streetfighter, and an ADV – and surprisingly, none of them is a cruiser! Almost two years later, we still don’t have any information as to when would these bikes see the light of the day.
Harley-Davidson also entered the electric motorcycle segment with its LiveWire, a good but expensive affair. The company also have plans to launch a low-displacement motorcycle that will be manufactured by the Chinese motorcycle giant Qianjiang (also the owner of the Benelli brand).
Now, as per some leaked documents from an investor presentation, Harley-Davidson might be working on two new motorcycles – a flat-tracker and a cafe racer. Right now, not much is known about these bikes but we do have a couple of pictures.
Both the motorcycles are expected to be powered by the big Revolution Max V-Twin engine which would also handle the duties in the Pan America. There are no confirmed power and torque figures as of now. Some of the features of the flat-tracker that can be spotted in the picture include LED lighting, alloy wheels, dual-purpose tyres, Brembo brakes, USD forks, dual exhausts, and a single seat.
As for the cafe racer, it has retro styling parts like the bikini fairing, clip-ons, old-school blinkers, and a single exhaust. It is expected that both the flat-tracker and cafe racer would have many parts and components in common.
The thought of a Harley-Davidson Cafe Racer does excite us. And the Flat-Tracker could give the Indian FTR1200 some serious competition. Who would like to see the new Harleys become a reality? We surely do.
