Winter is coming, and that means just one thing for all of us who ride here, it’s time to head out on those long weekend rides. Even though we’ve been riding throughout the summer, the rides have been short and very exhausting.

Last week we say the temperatures drop in Dubai to a reasonable 35-37 degree Celsius during most of the day and planned a mammoth off-road ride with around 80 to 100kms of off-road around the hills of Fujairah.

We headed out as usual from Dragon Mart in Ras Al Khor after our quick coffee and refuel. We rode west on Al Awir (Hatta) road and joined Emirates Road, exiting in about 10kms on to Al Dhaid road and heading towards Fujairah.

We had a good mix of dual-sport adventure motorcycles among us. There was a new R1200GS LC, a R1200GS, a R1200GSA LC, a R1200GSA, a brand new Honda Africa Twin CRF1000L and a Yamaha Super Tenere.

As usual, we off-road trouble mongers kept exploring the area, heading into quarries and into people’s farms in search for a good off-road track. We finally found an opening in the hills at the following GPS coordinates 25.560253, 56.089595 that eventually took us up what was the best off-road climb we’ve done this year and we’ve done plenty.

This is real technical route with steep climbs and very sharp hairpins. We all enjoyed this ride and we’ve already made plans to go there again now that we know the exact starting point.

All of us are now running on Shinko 804/805 tyres and they’ve been performing really well. The Africa Twin performed the best and to be honest, it’s designed for handling off-road much better than it’s rivals which are more road biased.

If you are looking to ride off-road and are looking for some people to ride with, reach out to me and we can plan a ride together. The more the merrier.
