Harley-Davidson has issued a recall affecting nearly 17,000 units across four models from its Softail lineup, covering the 2025 and 2026 model years.

The recall impacts the Harley-Davidson Heritage Classic, Harley-Davidson Street Bob, Harley-Davidson Low Rider S, and Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST. According to the company, all units of these models are affected due to a design-related clearance issue.

The problem stems from the combination of a new electrical architecture and a narrower frame. This layout places the Body Control Module (BCM) too close to the rear brake line, raising the risk of contact over time. Prolonged friction could wear down the brake line, potentially leading to fluid leaks and reduced rear braking performance and hence, significantly increasing safety risks.

Riders may notice warning signs such as brake fluid beneath the motorcycle or a drop in rear brake performance. While no accidents or injuries have been reported so far, the issue is being treated as a precautionary safety measure.

To fix the problem, Harley-Davidson will replace the BCM mounting caddy with a redesigned unit that improves clearance. Dealers will also inspect the rear brake line and replace it if any damage is detected.

The updated component has already been implemented in newer production models, ensuring the issue is resolved going forward.

Owners of affected motorcycles are advised to get in touch with authorised dealers to schedule the necessary inspection and repair.
