Homologation documents filed in China have revealed key details of the upcoming KTM RC450, offering a first look at KTM’s newest middleweight sportbike. While the RC450 is closely based on the CFMoto 450SR S, KTM has made several changes to give the motorcycle a distinct RC identity.

Visually, the RC450 stands apart with a sharper front end featuring vertically stacked twin LED headlights. The redesigned fairing incorporates winglets, lending the bike a proper big-bike presence, while KTM’s signature orange paint and RC450 graphics further set it apart from its Chinese sibling.

Power comes from the same 449.5cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, but KTM has tuned it to deliver 55.3bhp, around 5bhp more than the 450SR S. The RC450 is claimed to reach a top speed of 195kmph, placing it firmly in the performance sportbike category.

Chassis upgrades are equally notable. The RC450 features WP Apex suspension, with adjustable front forks similar to those on the KTM 390 range. A 10mm shorter wheelbase should make the bike more agile, while a WP steering damper has been added to improve stability at high speeds. Despite these additions, the RC450 undercuts the CFMoto slightly on weight, tipping the scales at 168kg kerb.

The bike retains the trellis frame and single-sided swingarm of the 450SR S, but with KTM’s own tuning and setup. On paper, it shapes up as a compelling alternative to models like the Aprilia RS 457 and Kawasaki Ninja 500.
