Ducati is gearing up for a major step forward in its adventure lineup with the next-generation DesertX, showcased at EICMA and set to hit dealerships in May 2026. Four years after its debut, the dirt-ready DesertX returns with a new engine, lower weight, and refined suspension geometry, aiming to sharpen its desert-racing DNA without compromising everyday versatility.

At the heart of the update is Ducati’s new 890cc V2 IVT engine, replacing the long-running Testastretta V-twin. While this move marks a departure from Ducati’s iconic desmodromic valve actuation and trims displacement by 74cc, performance remains almost identical. The new DesertX produces 108 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 92 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm, ensuring it’s just as enthusiastic when the trail opens up.

The new engine also contributes to a 4 kg weight reduction, bringing the DesertX down to 206 kg (wet). Much of this likely comes from the shift away from the previous trellis frame. Ducati hasn’t revealed full chassis details yet, but all signs point to an engine-as-stressed-member layout, similar to what we’ve just seen on the new Hypermotard. This design helps improve torsional rigidity and allows a more compact, performance-focused chassis—though real-world off-road durability will be something riders will watch closely.

The switch to the IVT engine officially retires the Testastretta across the Ducati lineup as the brand completes its transition to Euro 5+ compliance.
True to its purpose, the DesertX sticks with its tried-and-tested 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, keeping it firmly in the hardcore adventure category with access to proper off-road rubber. Ducati has also introduced an upgraded progressive rear linkage for smoother suspension action, though full suspension specifications are still under wraps.
More details will be revealed in February, followed by its European launch in May 2026.
