Electric vehicles are no longer the future, they’re already here. We’ve seen highly capable and successful electric bikes from brands like Zero Motorcycles and Energica. Now, new companies have also started stepping in. One such startup is the One-Moto, a British brand in the quest to revolutionise the electric two-wheeler market in the UAE with its three electric scooters – Electa, Commuta, and Byka.

The Machine

All three electric scooters are very similar to each other. They have a 4kW brushless DC motor along with a 72V 40AH replaceable lithium battery. They have a range of 90-150kms and can reach a top speed of 85km/h. And it takes 4-5 hours to fully charge up the battery. The good thing is that a normal 3-pin socket can be used for charging and it takes just an hour to get 80% capacity. The scooters are available in a plethora of colours.

The difference between the three electric scooters is their usage. The Electa is designed to be an everyday classic scooter. The Commuta, as the name suggests, is a commuting vehicle for inter-city travels. It should be good for urban riders and even has a small storage top-box. And then we have the Byka which is primarily built to be used for food delivery services thanks to its ‘keep temp’ technology.

The Idea

One-Moto says that the whole idea behind developing these electric scooters is to deliver a cost-effective, advanced technology solution to commuters and delivery sectors. With 18 months of R&D, they have created a perfect electric ride that has a developed Intelligent Battery Management System (IBMS) and an accurate range prediction algorithm.

One-Moto claims that calculating, in just one year, the savings alone will have paid for the bikes, allowing such businesses to expand without further investment. In the UAE, the food delivery industry has grown from AED 50m to AED 200m in recent years, yet the downtime, fuel and servicing fees are proving a hindrance for these delivery companies to accommodate demand.

One-Moto wanted to create and launch a range of electric scooters into the market to be the first adopters of electric vehicles, providing an eco-friendly, sustainable mode of transport in the UAE.

Some Benefits

Since electric vehicles don’t consume convention fuel, they are very environment-friendly. This is one of the reasons why even the Government is supporting their usage. Some benefits of One-Moto electric scooters are-

Adam Ridgway, CEO, Middle East, said, “We are looking to work closely with the RTA to develop a movement of two-wheeled inner-city commuting and a ‘buzz around town’. Our vision was to create a movement with this lifestyle brand – time will tell if we’ve succeeded.”
