White Motorcycle Concepts (WMC), the company behind the British electric motorcycle land-speed world-record programme, and Zero Motorcycles have joined forces to introduce the world’s first electric sports bike featuring WMC’s patented “Intelligent Aero” duct, achieving a 10% reduction in aerodynamic drag. The prototype, based on the Zero SR/S, showcases the potential to extend range and enhance performance in electric motorcycles.
At the heart of this innovation is a bespoke aerodynamic duct running through the bike’s center. The system channels air from behind the front wheel, exiting just under the seat, thanks to new front fenders and fork shrouds that optimize airflow. WMC leveraged advanced computational fluid dynamics and motorsport-inspired techniques to refine the design.
This collaboration began at EICMA 2023, where WMC identified the Zero SR/S’s frame and battery layout as ideal for integrating the duct. The results promise benefits like extended range, reduced battery size, improved top speed, and lower overall costs.
WMC Founder Robert White emphasized the duct’s potential – Aerodynamics is a key area for efficiency. While MotoGP uses aerodynamic enhancements for speed, we’ve applied similar principles to deliver range improvements for EV motorcycles.
Zero Motorcycles CTO Abe Askenazi echoed this vision, stating that battery advancements are critical, but combining technologies like WMC’s duct can redefine electric motorcycles.
The WMCSRS concept will debut publicly at Motorcycle Live 2024 (November 16-24) at the Zero Motorcycles stand, showcasing how innovation and collaboration are shaping the future of two-wheeled EVs.
