Some motorcycles make you plan a coffee stop. This one makes you look for where the tarmac ends.
KTM’s new 2027 690 Rally takes the 690 Enduro R platform and adds the equipment that makes longer off-road journeys more tempting: a rally tower, a windscreen and approximately 20 litres of fuel capacity. KTM positions it as the spiritual successor to the 640 Adventure. For Gulf riders, the appeal is easy to see — a single-cylinder adventure bike with room to stretch its legs.

More than a Dakar silhouette
The tower gives the bike its rally character, but there is purpose behind the styling. Wind protection, LED lighting derived from the 450 Rally Replica and a 4.2-inch TFT display bring a more travel-focused cockpit to the Enduro platform.
Dual front tanks help bring total fuel capacity to 20 litres. That is useful for longer routes, although tank size alone does not tell us how far it will go through soft sand.
Adjustable WP XPLOR suspension, with 265mm of front travel and 250mm at the rear, sits alongside a proper 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel combination.

A big single with serious intent
The LC4 engine displaces 692.7cc and produces a claimed 79PS — approximately 78hp — and 73Nm of torque. KTM lists weight without fuel at 161.5kg. Fill that sizeable tank and the riding weight rises, so that figure needs its qualifier.
The seat stands at 935mm. This is a tall motorcycle, and anyone considering one should spend some time checking their reach and confidence at low speed.
Street and Off-road riding modes are standard, while optional Rally mode brings adjustable traction control and throttle response. KTM also quotes 15,000km oil-change intervals; owners should follow the maintenance schedule applicable to their riding conditions.

Why it makes sense here
For a UAE winter weekend linking road sections with gravel tracks and desert riding, the formula looks promising. The windscreen should help on the connecting stretches, while the fuel capacity gives riders more flexibility when planning remote routes.
There are still questions a spec sheet cannot answer: how it carries its fuel in soft sand, how comfortable it feels over a full day, and how it behaves in Gulf heat. Those deserve a local ride before we deliver a verdict.
KTM announced October 2026 dealer availability internationally and confirmed a UK starting price of £11,499 on the road. We have not verified UAE or wider GCC pricing or local delivery dates.

Bike Nation’s take
The 690 Rally’s strongest selling point is the package: enduro foundations, extra fuel and a factory rally cockpit.
For riders who want their next adventure to involve more standing on the pegs, it is a compelling proposition. Now we need a local price — and a proper day in the dirt.
