There were 18 riders on the grid for the cracking racing event. Apart from that, riders from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Romania and Croatia were present at the opening race weekend. And to ensure that the public didn’t miss out on any action, the Creative House Scaffolding Fan Zone had a large screen TV showing the race live. It also had food trucks, a bike simulator and a motorcycle accessory display by Al Yousuf Yamaha. All of this was set up within touching distance of the race competitors and their machines.

In the first race, there was a dramatic and unfortunate crash between the defending champion Martin Vugrinec (4) & Yuri Nekrasov (20) on turn one. As a result, the race was red-flagged. Thankfully, both the riders involved in the mishap didn’t sustain any serious injuries.

The race restart worked in favour of Saeed Al Sulaiti (11). The VME Valves rider took charge and dominated the entire race from the front. He took the top step at the podium in not just this race but also in race 2 in the modified class.

In the Al Yousuf Motors superstock category, there was an epic battle between Manuel Parra (34) and Firas Abou Ghanem (33) that started right from the first lap and continued till the end of the race. Manuel was constantly putting pressure on Firas but could not find a chink in his defensive armour.

It wasn’t until the last lap that Manuel found an opportunity while the 2 riders were navigating through back markers. At turn 14, also known as the “Bowl”, Firas opted to go around the outside of the back marker while Manuel gambled taking the inside line. And it paid off for Manuel who crossed the finish line around 3 – 4 bike lengths ahead of Firas to claim the 1st place.

Another interesting and intense fight was happening a little further down in the SAXO Rookie CUP. Tom Robson (86) and Rodion Yashkov (21) were literally swapping paints during the thrilling race. Tom on his Numix Yamaha R6, eventually was victorious against the Black Fox Yamaha R6 of Rodion and took top honors in the category.

It was indeed a very exciting opening race weekend for the DSBK – UAE National Championship. Spectators must be glad that they watched it happening live. But those who missed it can still watch it live on the Furiosa Racing YouTube channel (Furiosaracing DXB).
