One’s got a reputation to uphold, especially when it says something like – The King of Sportbikes. No doubt the tag is big, but when you have the kind of credentials the GSX-R line has had for the last 15 years since its launch, the job becomes a wee bit easier. While others with such achievements would rest on their laurels, the king does not. It returns with the 2017 GSX-R1000R, the finest yet to emerge in the GSX-R line.

It features a new 999.8cc liquid-cooled DOHC four-cylinder engine, delivering the kind of performance that it is famed for – courtesy of a VVT system, Ride-by-Wire throttle bodies and a lot of electronic wizardry that includes an IMU, S-DMS adjustable power output, and Suzuki traction control.

GSX-R1000R features a new version of the triple mode Suzuki Drive Mode Selector that allows the rider to select power output of the engine. So whether you are on a racetrack or potholed road, you have the choice of selecting the mode that suits the riding conditions.

Another feature that is sure to be loved by riders is the Suzuki Low RPM Assist System, which means riding away from a stop position is made smoother and even moving slowly through traffic gets easier.

While the performance hogs the limelight, there have been a lot of design tweaks and adjustments. The twin-spar aluminum frame used on this one is 10% lighter and is optimized to provide better grip when cornering. The suspension is taken care of by Showa and brakes are from Brembo.

And finally the price! The GSX-R1000R starts at $16,999 (AED 62,434) in the US.
