Royal Enfield’s electric ambitions are becoming a reality, with the Himalayan Electric recently spotted testing in Ladakh. This test mule appears close to production and builds on the HIM-E prototype first showcased at EICMA 2023.
The electric ADV carries forward Royal Enfield’s rugged DNA, evident in its custom-built aluminium frame, swingarm, and battery casing. The chassis uses the battery and motor as stressed members, suggesting a purpose-built EV architecture. Aluminium heel plates, luggage mounts, and off-road footpegs reinforce its adventure-ready stance.
Design-wise, it follows a “function over form” philosophy, featuring a tall windscreen, single-piece seat integrated with a faux tank, and fully LED lighting with projector headlight. The absence of a front beak distinguishes it from its ICE sibling.
The bike flaunts premium hardware — SM Pro Platinum billet aluminium wheels, Bridgestone Battlax knobby tyres, petal discs with Nissin calipers, and fully adjustable USD forks paired with an Öhlins rear mono-shock. A large 7-inch ECUMASTER rally-style digital display hints at its high-tech edge.
While Royal Enfield hasn’t confirmed launch timelines, the Himalayan Electric looks near-ready. Whether it retains all the premium components for production remains to be seen, but it clearly aims to bring serious electric capability to the ADV segment.
