Indian Motorcycle shifted from its usual product format and came up with a fabulous naked streetfighter, the FTR 1200. Indian has a lot of experience in flat-track racing and it utilised that to develop the new motorcycle. It also revealed a rally version at EICMA 2019 which is going to be that much better off the roads. Now, the latest reports reveal that Indian could be working on a new ADV bike that’s based on the FTR 1200.
There is a leaked document which contains information that suggests that Indian has an FTR 1200-based ADV under development. This new adventure motorcycle will share a handful of parts and components with the FTR 1200. Powering it would be the same 1203cc, V-Twin that produces around 120 bhp. Indian could tune it accordingly.
To have a proper ADV bike, there is a checklist of basic features which Indian is expected to include in the FTR 1200 ADV. It should have a new suspension setup with a longer-travel, dual-purpose tyres, raise handlebars for a better and relaxed riding position, a new subframe, more luggage carrying capacity, knuckle guards, higher ground clearance, windscreen, etc.
It’s being said that Indian could launch its FTR 1200 ADV bike sometime next year as a 2021 model. And you know what’s also coming at the same time? Harley’s first adventure motorcycle, the Pan America! Knowing the rivalry between these two companies, we don’t think this is just a coincidence.
