In stage 5 of Dakar 2020, riders faced difficult sandy terrain with rocky sections during the first 150 km. Later, they crossed the high plateaux of Jabal Sammar at an altitude of almost 1,500 metres which had some tricky steps to be climbed.
The entire course of stage 5 from Al-`Ula to Ha’il was pretty intense. Another rider’s journey to finish Dakar ended. Sam Sunderland of RED BULL KTM FACTORY TEAM crashed after covering 188 km.
With injuries to his back and left shoulder, the Englishman has had to exit the Dakar prematurely for the fifth time out of 7 participations. One of KTM’s best chances of victory thus leaves the rally.
It was Toby Price of RED BULL KTM FACTORY TEAM who regained his lost momentum and finished 1st in stage 5 by clocking a time of 03H 57′ 33”. He just beat PABLO QUINTANILLA who rode his Husqvarna brilliantly. The 3rd position was secured by ANDREW SHORT.
With some good riding, DAVID MCBRIDE from VENDETTARACINGUAE.COM improved his performance and finished in 72nd position. MOHAMMED BALOOSHI crossed the line in 106th place whereas his teammate ABDULLAH AL SHATTI was much better as he finished 34th.
