We were eagerly waiting for the 2019-20 National Sportsbike Super Series to commence and we know that so were you. And honestly speaking, after witnessing a brilliant Round 1, we think that the season couldn’t have had a better start!

For the first time in the Championship, we saw a starting grid of 20 racers! Thanks to the great work done by the guys at Furiosa Racing, this year’s organisers, there was local as well as international participation in the race. Mike ‘Spike’ Edwards, the multiple times British Motorcycle Champion, was a wildcard entry which clearly indicated for some serious action in Round 1. This also meant a good opportunity for the other racers to watch and learn from the experienced riders.

Mike participated in the Milwaukee Ducati Pro-Twins category and won in Race 1 but it wasn’t easy for him. He received a tough fight for the top position by the local Dubai rider and Supersport champion Mahmoud Tannir astride his Dell Technologies Honda CBR600. Trailing Tannir at the 3rd place was Superstock rider Ahmed Al Muyini on his AHM Yamaha R6.

In Race 2, Mike took an early lead, however, Tannir managed to pass him later on by putting some great effort. He then created a gap large enough to safely cross the finish line first. After Mike, it was again Ahmed Al Muyini to take the 3rd place overall.

So it was Tannir who secured the 1st place in the Supersport category. Local Saudi rider/rocket, Ahmed Al Muyini was the leader in the Superstock category. And Mike Edwards won in the Milwaukee Ducati Pro-Twins category.

We also witnessed some great riding by the female participants like Katerina Nazarova and Dania Akeel, who was the first female Saudi rider to participate in the National Sportsbike Super Series.

Overall the riders had a good start to the season and put on a great show for the crowd who got to view the race from the newly erected grandstand in the ‘bowl’ section of the track which has proudly been sponsored by Creative House Scaffolding. Also, kudos to Dubai Autodrome for providing superb marshalling and controlling for a safer racing environment.

We are looking forward to having an even more exciting time at Round 2 of the 2019-20 National Sportsbike Super Series which is scheduled to take place on December 6th.
