If you are an avid rider, you might have come across people who are old on the road still riding a motorcycle relatively slowly in a lane that they should not be in. Makes you wonder, why they are still even riding, right? Meet Jock Stares who still rides his scooter in the Welsh Valleys at 101 years old! Yes, you read that right, he is over a hundred years old and still manages to ride! The 100 Year Old Driving School took the viewers of ITV on a journey with some older riders and assessed them by RoSPA instructions where this 101 year old rider was found.
Without a doubt, the older folks do have some bad habits in riding and this was a trip to assess and find out their flaws. Jock, with over 90 years of riding up his sleeve, is not afraid to ride and has his own point of view to this equation. Nevertheless, with the rapidity in traffic today, and the slower reactions of these older folks could mean that they need to acclimatize to the environment as things are not the same like it was in the 20th century.
In the documentary that was featured, Jock says whenever the instructor asked him to not to something, he did not bother and went on doing what he liked. When asked, he said: “But I am so considerate to other people and their opinions, that I would take it on board and think very seriously if I should be driving.” The instructors were quite stunned at the experience themselves as they have never instructed people with three-digit age. All that unfolding aside, this was a joyous experience for the folks who attended and the instructors say that the riders seemed young despite their age thanks to their two-wheel riding habits.
