It’s a Happy New Year indeed for Yamaha fans! There’s a rumour prevailing that the Japanese two-wheeler giant is working on an R9 motorcycle to fulfil the gap between the R7 and R1. And the said model is set to be revealed in 2024.
As per the reports, a couple of renderings have surfaced online showcasing how the Yamaha R9 would look like. We can see that the motorcycle appears to have borrowed multiple design cues from the brand’s current sportbike lineup. The red and white livery has been created to pay tribute to the original 1998 Yamaha R1.
It is being said that the Yamaha R9 will have the underpinnings of the MT-09. It’d be the same scenario that the company has followed for its multiple bikes such as the R125, R3, R7 and even the R1. Expect to see other features such as TFT display, suspension and braking components, and rider aids to be carried forward too.
In Aug 2021, Yamaha filed applications for the moniker “R9” and “YZF-R9” in different regions of the world. So, the brand is likely to be working on such a model and it could very well be revealed in 2024.
