Indian Motorcycles has officially discontinued the FTR (formerly FTR 1200), marking the end of the flat track-inspired road bike that debuted in 2019. The confirmation came quietly through a footnote in Polaris’ Q4 2024 financial report, with no special farewell edition or press announcement.

The FTR’s exit comes amid poor sales performance and the challenge of meeting Euro 5+ emission norms, which likely made further updates financially unviable.

Originally designed as a street-legal version of the championship-winning FTR750, the FTR 1200 featured a 1,203cc liquid-cooled V-twin producing 120 bhp and 118 Nm, housed in a trellis frame with fully adjustable suspension. Despite its promise, Indian only released mild variants like the FTR Rally, rather than fully capitalizing on its modular design.

With the FTR750 no longer competing in American Flat Track racing, a direct replacement seems unlikely. While the new Indian Scout with its 1,250cc SpeedPlus engine shares some traits, it remains a cruiser rather than a true street tracker.

For now, the Indian FTR bows out, leaving behind a legacy of what could have been in the performance-oriented naked bike segment.
