With each passing stage, Dakar 2020 is becoming more difficult, dangerous and brutal, giving a toll to the riders. It is still a long way to go guys. Stage 4 has just finished. In this stage, riders had to cover a total distance of 672 km from Neom to Al-ʿUla.
JOSE IGNACIO CORNEJO FLORIMO scored his maiden stage win in Al-ʿUla. He was signed with the factory Honda team three years ago and he proved why he’s in the team. He finished 1st with a time of 04H 24′ 51” followed by his teammate KEVIN BENAVIDES who clocked 04H 25′ 26”. The 3rd position was taken by ROSS BRANCH from BAS DAKAR KTM RACING TEAM.
In stage 3, we saw the unfortunate premature exit of Frenchman Adrien Van Beveren who suffered a deadly crash. Now, in stage 4, it was his teammate, Xavier de Soultrait’s turn. He already had a crash near the end of stage 3 that left him with several stitches and a bruised right wrist (damaged nerve). He still raced for 300 km in stage 4 before giving up. This is a serious blow for Yamaha, which have lost their two best riders so far.
DAVID MCBRIDE from VENDETTARACINGUAE.COM performed brilliantly. He set a time of 06H 16′ 42” and finished at 80th position. Emirati MOHAMMED BALOOSHI continues to show how it’s done with a total time of 05H 20′ 47” crossing the line at 40th position. His teammate, ABDULLAH AL SHATTI finished 69th. His time was 06H 11′ 22”.
