Dakar 2020 is now nearing towards the final few stages. Stage 10 was held on 15th January with the route going from Haradh to Shubaytah covering a total distance of 608 km. Riders are now pushing really hard, over the limits of their bodies and machines, to clock the fastest time.
After stage 10, JOAN BARREDA BORT of MONSTER ENERGY HONDA TEAM 2020 grabbed his first victory after several good stages in previous days in this year’s rally on completion of a shortened stage in Shubaytah. His time was 02H 11′ 42”.
Following him in the 2nd position was his teammate RICKY BRABEC who has been putting on a brilliant and consistent performance since the start of the rally. No wonder he is leading the charts in the general standings. At the end of stage 10, his time was 02H 12′ 49”.
The 3rd position was secured by KEVIN BENAVIDES, again from MONSTER ENERGY HONDA TEAM 2020. This means that the top 3 positions have been occupied by the MONSTER ENERGY HONDA TEAM 2020.
With 7 different nationalities riding the first 10 bikes to finish stage 10’s special, the Dakar is more cosmopolitan than ever. The top ten contained an American, two Chileans, a Spaniard, an Australian, an Austrian, two Argentineans and a Slovak, though not necessarily in that order.
There are no French riders in this list and if the situation continues, it will be the first time in the rally’s history that the founding country will not be represented in motorcycling’s elite. However, Adrien Metge, in 12th position, twenty minutes behind the 10th placed Svitko, could still creep into the top 10.
