2022 Argentina GP, the 3rd round of this season’s MotoGP Championship, proved to be a memorable event for Aprilia and Aleix Espargaro. The Spanish racer claimed his first-ever MotoGP win here which also turned out to be Aprilia’s first MotoGP victory in the modern era.
This was Espargaro’s 200th MotoGP race start and what better way to mark it with a fantastic and well-deserved win. During the final few laps of the round, Aleix gave his all but Jorge Martin did give him a hard time.
The Ducati rider wasn’t easy to deal with. In fact, Espargaro overtook Martin twice on different laps but both times he went wide and lost the lead. However, in the closing stages of the race, he finally got Jorge and successfully increased the gap to grasp victory at the 2022 Argentina GP.
The 3rd place at the podium was taken by Suzuki’s Alex Rins who was followed by his teammate Joan Mir. The reigning world champion, Fabio Quartararo seemed to be struggling with his Yamaha and finished 8th. 4 riders, including Johann Zarco, did not finish.
With his Argentina GP win, Espargaro now leads the 2022 MotoGP world championship with a total of 45 points. Tailing him at the 2nd spot is KTM’s Brad Binder with a pocket full of 38 points. With 36 points in hand, Ducati rider Enea Bastianini stands at 3rd place in this season’s championship standings.
