ktm-Bosch radar-based assistance system

Bosch has introduced six new radar-based rider assistance systems, four of which will debut in a new KTM model in November 2024. Set to enter production in 2025, these cutting-edge features aim to improve safety and riding comfort, marking another milestone in the ongoing partnership between Bosch and KTM.

Advanced Safety Features for Motorcyclists

The new Bosch systems offer unprecedented safety improvements. According to Bosch Accident Research, these features could help prevent one in six accidents on German roads. Here’s a breakdown of the key systems debuting with KTM:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go (ACC S&G): This system automatically adjusts speed and distance from the vehicle ahead, bringing the motorcycle to a controlled standstill in traffic. Riders can resume motion with the push of a button or throttle activation, enhancing comfort in stop-and-go situations.
  • Group Ride Assist (GRA): Ideal for group riding, GRA detects staggered formations and maintains a safe distance from motorcycles ahead, ensuring a smoother group ride.
  • Riding Distance Assist (RDA): RDA helps maintain an appropriate distance from vehicles in front, reducing acceleration or applying brakes automatically when necessary. It seamlessly blends into the riding experience, providing enhanced safety.
  • Emergency Brake Assist (EBA): EBA engages when a potential collision is detected and the rider doesn’t brake hard enough. It increases brake pressure to reduce the bike’s speed as quickly as possible, potentially preventing accidents.

Rear Protection Systems

  • Rear Distance Warning (RDW): This feature monitors vehicles approaching from behind and warns riders of potential rear-end collisions via a display alert.
  • Rear Collision Warning (RCW): RCW activates hazard lights to warn vehicles behind when a rear-end collision is imminent, particularly useful in sudden braking scenarios or traffic jams.

With these advanced radar-based systems, Bosch and KTM aim to make motorcycling safer and more enjoyable, giving riders peace of mind on every ride.
