If you’re an automobile enthusiast, you’d know that M for BMW means outright performance. BMW makes high-performance versions of its normal cars and adds prefix ‘M’ to their names. For example, M3 for 3-series. Now, the latest reports suggest that BMW’s M badge would be used in its motorcycles too, sometime in the future.

BMW has filed trademark applications with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for the names M 1000 RR, M 1000 XR, and M 1300 GS. These could be an entirely new range of performance bikes that would be even more brutal than the current models of the S 1000 RR. S 1000 XR, and R 1250 GS.

What could be expected from these M models? These bikes would be loaded with the latest and most advanced electronics. BMW would do everything possible to keep the weight in check; expect carbon fibre wheels, lighter battery, etc. And since these motorcycles will be nothing short of extraordinary machines, there would be a special paint scheme as well.

We don’t think BMW would be replacing its current S 1000 RR, S 1000 XR, and R 1250 GS motorcycles with the new M models. In fact, the M bikes would be an entirely different line-up acquiring the top-most position in the company’s product catalogue.

Now, there have been instances when a company has filed a patent for something but that never became a reality. As of now, the M badge BMW bikes are just a name on a paper and we would definitely like them to be so much more than that!
