BMW Motorrad has given us some fantastic-looking motorcycles in the past. There are usually a plethora of elements in a BMW that demand attention and add to the overall styling of the bike; even the engine plays a crucial role. What else could be a better example of it than BMW’s boxer-engined R models? The outward-pointing cylinders look exquisite.
But what would happen to such boxer-engined motorcycles in the future when electric motorcycles will (we hope not) take over the conventional motorcycles? BMW didn’t want to let go of its boxer-engined platform and perhaps, that’s what gave it the inspiration for its latest electric motorcycle concept, the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster.
Being a concept and a BMW, the Vision DC Roadster has a very futuristic design. While the whole bike looks amazing, it’s the design and placement of its electric motor that attracted us the most. In order to give the bike a boxer-engined feel and look, BMW has found a brilliant way. It stacked the vertical batteries in a longitudinal fashion and put the motor at the centre. So instead of opposed engine cylinders, the concept has two cooling elements jutting out into the airstream. And the batteries are housed in an aluminium frame. Then there is the flat structure that supports the seat and the rear section of the bike. It is light yet very sturdy.
Other striking features of the BMW Motorrad Vision DC Roadster include a futuristic U-shaped LED headlamp with integrated LED daytime running lights, shaft-drive system, special tyres developed by Metzelers, Duolever front suspension, etc.
The entire bike is very compact and has an aggressive riding stance. It looks extremely sporty and we wouldn’t be wrong to guess that it’s super agile as well. Of course, there are no further details as of now and by the looks of it, it seems that the Vision DC Roadster has got a long road to travel before finding the light of the day. But, at least, now we know what we would get to have in the electric future.
