Dakar Rally, like we all know, is one of the harshest, merciless, tiresome and grinding rally events in the world. The participants, as well as their machines, need to be flawless to survive through it. It is because of its ruthless nature, the machine manufacturers give their 100% to make a proper rally-oriented product, specifically for Dakar. Hero MotorSports, the motorsport arm of Hero MotoCorp, has revealed a teaser image of the new bike that will be participating in 2018 Dakar.
We can see that only the upper portion of the motorcycle. It is more like an outline. What we can make out from it is perhaps a new front-end with a new set of headlights. There might be a few changes in the seat as well as the rear portion of the motorcycle. We can’t say much as of now.
The new 2018 Dakar bike has been built by Speedbrain, Hero MotoCorp’s motorsport partner. Other than the new implementations, this bike will be fitted with all the necessary equipment that a Dakar-specific motorcycle should have; like navigation tower, road book or tulip chart holder, three water reservoirs and two fuel tanks (main and auxiliary). It is also been contemplated that the new bike will be powered by a 450cc, single cylinder engine that would produce a max power of 54 hp.
The Dakar tests both the man and his machine in ways that one can’t anticipate. The entire course of the rally is over 9,000 km and covers many terrain and weather conditions. No wonder why it is one of the cruellest rally events of all time.
Riding the new 2018 Dakar bike of Hero MotorSports will be India’s CS Santosh and Portugal’s Joaquim Rodrigues (also known as J-Rod). In this year’s Dakar, Santosh finished at 47th position whereas his teammate crossed the line in 10th position. People consider it courageous and lucky enough just to finish the Dakar. We can’t wait for the 2018 Dakar to begin as with each passing year, the competition has become so much more fierce and challenging. Also, it’d be interesting to watch how the new Hero MotorSports motorcycle performs.
