Jorge Lorenzo went from Yamaha to Ducati during the starting of 2017 MotoGP. The Spanish rider struggled to find the sweet spot to tame the Ducati Desmosedici in the 2017 season. And he continues to find it difficult to ride the bike in the current season so far. Suzuki wants to utilise this point and lure in Lorenzo to join the team for 2019 season.

Andrea Iannone got into the Suzuki team as the lead rider and debuted in 2017. He failed to perform as per Suzuki’s expectations. He was at the 13th position in the last season’s rankings. Even in the current MotoGP season, he has been outperformed by his teammate Rins.

So far in the 2018 MotoGP season, Lorenzo has scored only 1 point. While his current teammate, Dovizioso, displayed a great performance last year and is expected to do well this year too. This means that Lorenzo will soon lose his position as the lead racer of Ducati. He would get a hefty pay cut. To avoid this, he might look to switch teams.

Suzuki knows about this situation well and would play its trump card to try and lure Lorenzo to join the blue team. Suzuki is pretty confident that he will be able to perform much better on its GSX-RR than the Desmosedici. However, it’s not under the shades that Suzuki won’t be able to afford Lorenzo at his current pay.

Well, things look interesting for now. So far only two races of the 2018 MotoGP season have been over, and there’s still a long way to the final one. Lorenzo might improve his pace in the coming races, or he could get even worse. It would be interesting to watch and learn how things unfold during the 2018 world championship. We will be keeping a watch on everything so do check this space.
