Round 5 of the 2019 MotoGP world championship is going to take place this weekend at the famous Bugatti Circuit in France. Michelin, who’s the official and sole tyre supplier of MotoGP, will introduce its ‘new technology’ rear tyre that’s supposed to provide enhanced traction and grip to the riders at the event.
As per the reports, Michelin has been developing this new rear tyre for quite some time. It had also tested it during the pre-season testing phase. Michelin hasn’t revealed anything about the new tyre. It has just said that it has used a ‘different way to mix up the components’.
Piero Taramasso, Michelin Motorsport Two-Wheel Manager, said, “This weekend is one the most important events for us on the calendar. It is our home race so we have the support of the French fans with us and also we have a huge presence from Michelin that come to the race, so we know we have a lot of people that want us to do well, meaning it is imperative that we give them a good show.”
“The Le Mans circuit is one where we have many records and also one which we use a reference because the asphalt is so good since it was resurfaced, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be looking to improve.”
“We have new compounds in the range that were added after the tests at the start of the year and these will certainly help the riders to improve their performances – as happened at Jerez last time out – and add to what promises to be another great event.”
Well, whatever the case may be, expectations from this new rubber are to give the riders all the grip that they need to put the track on fire. Apart from the new tyre, Michelin will also have a new compound hard front along with the soft, medium and hard slicks, soft and medium wet weather tyres in case it rains.
