There’s a bit of disagreement prevailing between Andrea Dovizioso and Ducati team. It is basically about the negotiation of his contract. Dovi doesn’t seem to be happy with it. He had once rejected the contract sent by Ducati.
Ducati Corse general manager Gigi Dall’Igna, says that contract negotiation with Dovi should be done as soon as possible. They might close off things by Mugello.
He said, “At the moment our focus is to find an agreement with Dovizioso. After that, we will try to start the negotiations with our other riders. I think that we have to fix this problem as soon as possible, but it’s not an easy negotiation and it takes time. I think that Mugello, for sure, we will tell yes or not.”
Lorenzo is getting paid significantly higher than Dovi. Lorenzo hasn’t been able to give his best onboard his Desmosedici. He couldn’t perform in the last season. This year, too, he is well behind his teammate in the world championship standings. Yes, he did put up a great race in Jerez, but it is not enough to win the GP.
Commenting on Lorenzo’s performance and Jerez GP, Dall’Igna said, “I’m not happy, Lorenzo is not happy, the Ducatisti are not happy… This is the reality and so we have to try to improve the performance of Lorenzo with the Ducati, this is for sure one of our targets.”
He further added, “Lorenzo sometimes was in a position to try to win races. In Malaysia, also in Jerez, he was quite fast. So I’m not happy about the results, but I’m happy sometimes about how fast he is with our bike.”
The next race in the 2018 MotoGP season will take place on 20th May, in France. And after that, it will be Mugello hosting the next round on 3rd June.
