2014 has been the year of expensive motorcycles. Niche brands like Ariel, Confederate, Lotus, Matchless, Arch Motorcycles and now Midual have launched their offerings that demand a sum that is pretty bonkers. Not only are these machines priced beyond the reach of a majority of motorcyclists, they are also styled and built in a way most motorcycles aren’t. They all scream bespoke, limited quantities and unconventional designs.

Take a close look at the Midual Type 1, only 35 of these will be made. This is the closest most of us may come at looking at one of these, on our computer screens. Each example costs $165,000, that’s AED 679,000 for a motorcycle! I could fill up my garage with some pretty impressive motorcycles with that amount of money and I’d still be left with enough to spend on some high end riding gear and a trip around the world.

The Midual Type 1 is powered by a water-cooled transverse flat-twin engine that puts out 106bhp, not that much given the price you’re paying. The Midual Type 1 is equipped with a 43mm Ohlins FGRT fork offering 120 mm of travel. The rake is adjustable from 24 to 25°, with a 100mm trail when the rake is set to 24.5°. The rear wheel and aluminium swingarm is suspended by a cantilevered Ohlins TTX36 rear shock which also offers 120 mm of travel. Brembo provides the braking components which include dual-piston callipers gripping the two 320mm floating discs up front and a two-piston calliper with 245mm disc at the rear.

Here is an interesting thing though, as an optional extra, Midual is also offering a four-year warranty and maintenance plan which includes the cost of picking up the motorcycle and shipping it to and from the factory for service.
