We are well aware of Indian Motorcycle’s history and linkage with flat track racing. Before Indian launched its FTR1200, it would have been hard for a non-petrolhead to fathom the fact that this brand is into a sport like flat track racing considering the product lineup it had. However, things have changed now thanks to the beastly and much capable FTR1200. And things are going to get even better because the first-ever official Indian Motorcycle European Flat Track Championship is going to take place in 2019.
Indian Motorcycle not only a keen participant in flat track racing but it also supports the sport. It actively encourages riders to get involved. It became the headline partner of the DTRA (Dirt Track Riders Association) in 2018 following a successful Hooligan championship-winning campaign in 2017.
The DTRA is run by riders and racers to promote European Flat Track racing. The series has grown year on year and is gaining popularity with riders from all disciplines of motorcycle sport from Rookie riders to Pro racers. Racing classes mean racing is open to many different levels of riders and types of bike. The DTRA has been instrumental in growing all forms of Dirt Track Racing outside of the USA and the UK scene has grown to be the second largest outside North America.
The partnership of Indian Motorcycle and DTRA in 2018 allowed for increased investment in the European Flat Track scene. And this amazing partnership will continue as Indian Motorcycle are proud to renew the sponsorship and continue their investment for the 2019 Series, allowing further growth of the sport in Europe.
DTRA Race Director Anthony Brown, said, “2019 is an important year for the DTRA and we are pleased to have the continued support of Indian Motorcycle. The 2018 season saw a massive increase in interest in the sport of Flat Track racing across Europe. We had so many riders visit us from all over the world that we thought it would be a good idea to pick the cream of European Flat Track events and create the first-ever official Indian Motorcycle European Flat Track Championship.”
“We hope that the new Championship is the start of something special where we can really showcase the talents we are starting to develop in Europe and we look forward to sending the winning Pro-Series rider to compete in a race meeting over in the USA with the help of long-time friend of the DTRA Johnny Lewis of Moto-Anatomy as the championship prize.”
The Dirt Track Riders Association has just announced its dates and full Series details for the Indian Motorcycle Flat Track Nationals 2019. The new European Series will feature the most popular classes; including the amazing spectacle of the street-bike based Hooligan class, at three showcase events. Alongside the UK Flat Track Nationals and the European Series, the DTRA is expanding the growing UK Hooligan Championship to run over a total of 6 rounds.
