Yamaha USA has introduced its all-new 2020 WR250F Enduro machine which is a part of the company’s 2020 Dirt Motorcycle models. The WR250F is closer than ever to the latest-generation, championship-winning YZ250F and arrives completely revised for precise performance in enduro competition. It is a favourite among fast trail riders and racers alike.
Yamaha has spent many hours working on the new WR250F to make sure it ticks off all the right boxes. Many new parts, revised components and design have made their way in the WR250F. Talking about everything in detail would take days. Here is a quick glimpse of what the 2020 WR250F is all about.
The new WR250F’s engine is based on the class-leading, fuel-injected YZ250F design, and features a rearward-inclined cylinder and reverse cylinder head. Its airbox is situated in front of the rider with the fuel tank located at the centre of the bike. Compared to the previous WR250F engine, the 2020 design is more powerful at higher rpm, and delivers stronger power through the rev range, making it a serious contender for top honours.
Yamaha has added a free-flow air filter which features improved airflow with increased reliability and, combined with a revised length of the intake funnel, contributes to an excellent feeling of traction and linear engine power characteristics during acceleration and deceleration.
The 6-speed gearbox of the 2020 Yamaha WR250F is super slick and complementing it is a new lighter and tougher clutch to match the extreme demands of enduro riding. The frame of the bike is the same as that of the YZ250F. However, Yamaha has made certain changes to make it suitable for extreme Enduro conditions. As a result, the handling of the WR250F is significantly improved and it gives more confidence to the rider.
The all-new WR250F runs the same industry-leading, fully adjustable KYB, SSS coil spring-type forks with speed-sensitive damping as the YZ250F, but with Enduro model-specific settings to provide optimal comfort and compliance. This suspension is acknowledged to be the best available on a production dirt bike and responds particularly well during the transition between the compression and rebound strokes. The rear shock absorber is also based on the YZ250F and features Enduro model-specific settings.
Some of the other highlighting features of the 2020 Yamaha WR250F include a more protective plastic resin engine guard, newly designed lighter fuel tank, flatter and lower seat, newly forged aluminium side-stand, sleek new headlight cowl, lightweight speed sensor with high-precision display, and 18-in rear wheel.
