Custom motorcycle building is definitely an artistic work. There are a plethora of custom motorcycle builders out there who try to implement their creative ideas into their latest creations. The love and craze for custom-built motorcycles have always been there, but we’ve witnessed them grow tremendously over the past few years.
Luuc Muis, a Dutch product designer, is known for having quite a hand and taste in custom motorcycles. His latest creation is an electric BMW R80. Apparently, LUUC.MUIS.CREATIONS was inspired by Barbara Custom Motorcycles to create an e-bike prototype which is primarily based on a stripped-down 1970 BMW R80. This prototype has an electric motor which Luuc calls it the E-drive.
The prototype looks stunning. It is very minimalistic yet it has the X-factor to lure you towards it. The E-drive has clearly replaced the conventional engine and has a shaft drive. The handlebars are placed very low giving it a dedicated riding position. The simple seat accommodates the tail light. Overall, this is a tempting machine.
Speaking about the prototype, Luuc said, “Give E-drive the sense of functional sound, the sound to indicate: the engine is on, someone is approaching, acceleration, speed, malfunction (we have all heard the weird ticking noises in our cars at some point). This sound could easily be generated through mechanical principles since it’s nothing else than frequency air displacement.”
He continues, “Next to functional sound the memory and movement handling of a regular bike, instead of a one geared E-drive. Ad a gearbox this keeps the experience of doing something with your machine. It may not be maintenance free implementing a gearbox but adds significant value to riding an electric motorcycle with sound.”
