A recall has been issued for certain Vespa scooter models by Piaggio. As per the reports, the problem is a potential fault in the brake line which could turn out to be quite dangerous. A total of 1,328 units are affected by this recall.
Piaggio states that the zinc plating surface of the brake hose terminal has not been properly galvanized and might not meet the required specs. This can lead to hydrogen being released in the system and result in a loss of braking efficiency. Scooters that have been sitting for a prolonged time are most likely to be affected by this issue.
Owners of the affected models will be contacted by mail through January 17, 2020. They would need to take their scooters to a Piaggio dealership where new front and back master cylinder brake flush fittings will be installed and a complete flush of the brake system will be performed free of cost.
