Has it ever happened to you that you’re parking your bike on its side stand which isn’t fully deployed and you’re unaware of it? Consequently, your bike either falls or you end up struggling to keep it touching from the ground. Well, if you have a Ducati, you should be more careful with its side stand because even if you deploy it fully, it could still cause your beloved motorcycle to fall. Here’s why.

As per the latest reports, a manufacturing defect in the side stand of certain Ducati motorcycles has come into the highlight. This defect could cause the side stand to break and you know what happens after that. To rectify this problem, Ducati has issued a recall.

The models affected by this defect include Ducati Multistrada 1260, Multistrada 1260S, and Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak manufactured between September 20, 2017, and February 13, 2018. A total of 493 units have gone under the axe.

According to recall documents, an improper weld that joins the side stand tube to the forged part on the top of the stand could affect the reliability of the component. Due to the faulty weld, the side stand may unexpectedly fail on the affected bikes, causing them to fall over without any warning, and in the process damage the bodywork or other components.

The recall has been issued by Ducati North America and thus all the affected models are in the US only. To rectify the problem, owners of the affected models will be notified and asked to bring their bikes to a Ducati dealership where the side stand will be replaced for free.

So far, Ducati UAE hasn’t released any such recall notice, so we’re safe for now!
