Ducati left us astounded by launching the Panigale V4, a bike that has set new benchmarks for other sports bikes. Now, it’s Aprilia which is prepping up to give the V4 a tough competition. As per the latest reports, the 2019 Aprilia RSV4 is in the works.
The current generation RSV4 is a magnificent product, but the bar has been raised by the Panigale V4 to a new height. In order to reach or even cross that bar, Aprilia is planning to bless the RSV4 with a comprehensive upgrade. This will not be limited to just the aesthetics, but will also include a more powerful engine and a highly sophisticated electronics package.
Right now the Aprilia RSV4 is powered by a 1000cc 4-cylinder engine that churns out around 200 horses. The 2019 model of this Italian motorcycle is expected to have a heart of 1,100cc V4. It could be derived from the popular Tuono and would have 215-200 bhp of power. And to make all that power properly usable, there would be a very intelligent electronics package.
Apart from giving the 2019 Aprilia RSV4 a new and more powerful engine, the Italians will also be keeping an eye on the weight of the new motorcycle. And to control that, we could expect to see a few changes in the chassis. Perhaps, Aprilia will borrow some technologies from its MotoGP race bikes.
Since Aprilia participates in the World Superbike Championship, chances are that it’s going to make two variants of the 2019 RSV4 – a 1,100cc model and a 1,000cc model – just like what Ducati has done.
Rumors in the industry suggest that Aprilia could showcase the 2019 RSV4 at this year’s EICMA show in November, and would launch it sometime in the mid of next year. However, Aprilia has been zipped about this, and there’s no official announcement.
