The 2017 MotoGP season continued from last week after the summer break and we witnessed Marquez grasping an amazing victory at Brno. However, the Spaniard couldn’t finish first in the Austrian GP. The title was taken away from him by Andrea Dovizioso!

It was an exciting race at the Red Bull Ring. After lap 12, the competition between Dovizioso and Marquez was neck-to-neck. Both the riders were only inches apart from each other for most of the remaining race. Marquez was running on med-hard tyre combination which allowed him to keep up with Dovizioso’s faster Ducati. Both Dovizioso and Lorenzo used the new fairings in this race which affected the top speed of the Ducatis but increased the acceleration and handling. Dovizioso went for med-soft tyre combo and was fighting the battle for the first place.

While Marquez and Dovizioso were busy with each other, Pedrosa was moving up the ladder ahead of Dovizioso’s team-mate Lorenzo who couldn’t keep up his position because of his fluctuating pace. Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi were running together for many laps.

An amazing battle for 1st by these two lads

With only 3 laps remaining, Marquez did a mistake at turn 1 and Dovizioso didn’t miss this chance to get ahead of him. The gap between them increased but Marc covered it up sooner than expected but couldn’t grab the first position. It was surely one of the best finishes in Dovizioso’s career. While Honda and Ducati were the top 2 to finish, it was Pedrosa to take the last spot at the Podium followed by Lorenzo, who finished 4 seconds after the Honda.

Dovizioso’s stunning win added 25 points to his scoreboard and pushed him up to the second position in the current 2017 MotoGP standings. He is 16 points behind Marquez and 8 points ahead of Maverick.
