The 2018 model of the Yamaha R1 and the R1M has received a few upgrades. Yamaha decided to do this silently. There aren’t any changes related to the engine but the electronics have been improved.
The 2018 Yamaha R1M will get a new Ohlins electronic racing suspension (ERS) with updated software, improving the performance of the motorcycle. The new ERS will be working hand-in-hand with Yamaha’s 6-axis IMU and will make necessary changes to the suspension settings on the go based on the rider’s input. The wheelie control system has also been linked to the IMU and the ECU has been remapped for better power delivery.
Yamaha has also tweaked the fueling on the new R1M to extract out the maximum from the motorcycle. The new quickshifter supports both up and down shifts and can also be turned off when not in use. Finally, there’s a new Silver Carbon Blu colour scheme for the R1M.
The 2018 standard R1 doesn’t get all the electronic updates of the R1M but Yamaha has added the new bi-directional quickshifter. There’s also a new colour scheme for the R1; it’s called the Race Blu.
