After facing a continuous fall in sales Harley Davidson has announced that it is going to launch three new high displacement motorcycles in 2020. These new bikes will include a middleweight streetfighter, a new Custom model, and an all-new adventure touring model.
According to a statement by the company, ‘The company will introduce a new modular 500 cc to 1250 cc middleweight platform of motorcycles that spans three distinct product spaces and four displacements.’
It is being anticipated that out of the three, the first one to see the light of the day will be the adventure motorcycle. It is called Pan America 1250. The other custom model will also feature a 1250cc engine and would be based on a Bobber. The streetfighter model will be a bit less in terms of displacement and will have a 975cc engine. The engines on all the three models will be of V-type only.
Matt Levatich, president and chief executive officer, Harley-Davidson, Inc. said, “The bold actions we are announcing today leverage Harley-Davidson’s vast capabilities and competitive firepower – our excellence in product development and manufacturing, the global appeal of the brand and of course, our great dealer network. Alongside our existing loyal riders, we will lead the next revolution of two-wheeled freedom to inspire future riders who have yet to even think about the thrill of riding.”
Another statement from Harley states, ‘’More Roads to Harley-Davidson’ growth plan has been formulated keeping in mind the changing consumer demands, and the announcement support Harley-Davidson’s 2027 objectives with “increased focus and strategic investment to reinvigorate the US business while accelerating the pace of international growth.” The ‘More Roads to Harley-Davidson’ plan includes launching new products, providing broader access to customers, and improving the dealership network, and the Harley-Davidson customer experience.’
Matt further added by saying, “Harley-Davidson is iconic because we’ve never been static. In moving forward, we are tapping into the spirit that drove our founders back in 1903 and every one of the employees and dealers who rose to the challenges faced along the way. Our plan will redefine existing boundaries of our brand – reaching more customers in a way that reinforces all we stand for as a brand and as a company and we can’t wait to kick it into gear.”
Harley Davidson has also released pictures of the prototypes of the three new models. These are just prototypes and the final production model would be different with varying features. As per the pictures, we really dig the Streetfighter. It looks very aggressive and should be fun to ride around town. We will be following this topic so keep checking this space for more. By the way, what do you think of the three new Harleys?
