It’s been a while since the news of Lorenzo getting onboard Honda from next MotoGP season. He’ll be replacing Pedrosa and will be racing along with the reigning world champion, Marc Marquez. Ever since Pedrosa’s future was a blur. He has been pretty silent about this topic. However, the recent news suggests that he’s going to reveal his future plans at a special press conference at the next round of 2018 MotoGP in Germany.
Earlier rumors were that Petronas/SIC Yamaha team is interested in getting Pedrosa in the team. But if that would have been the case, the announcement would have been made by the team through a press release. Instead, Pedrosa has decided to call for a special conference. So this could be likely for his retirement announcement.
In a short statement emailed to the media this evening, Pedrosa said,
Finally I have taken my decision concerning my future. I want to inform everyone personally and at the same time.
For this reason, in Sachsenring I will give a press conference for this matter.
I please ask everyone to respect my decision to wait until then to make my announcement.
Thanks very much in advance.
If Pedrosa opts for leaving the sport, his ‘alleged seat’ in the Petronas/SIC Yamaha team would be given to either Bradley Smith or Alvaro Bautista. The other seat is already occupied by Franco Morbidelli.
Dani Pedrosa has been a part of 18 Grand Prix seasons so far. He’s a talented rider. Unfortunately, he couldn’t perform in the last round in Assen because of his uncertain future which affected his performance.
