Moto Guzzi unveiled the V85 Concept at 2017 EICMA, and also announced a new range of Adventure motorcycles based on the 850 cc platform, beginning 2021.
Mandello del Lario based luxury motorcycle maker Moto Guzzi had a rather interesting concept to show the world at 2017 EICMA. Earlier this year, Guzzi had discontinued its lone adventure touring motorcycle, the Stelvio 1200. It was quirky, a bit porky, and lagged behind other players in the market on account of very few updates it acquired from its makers.
Citing low sales for the Stelvio, Moto Guzzi ceased production, with no further updates on whether a new model will arrive. Until 2017 EICMA, that is. Moto Guzzi unveiled the V85 Adventure concept, another quirky adventure motorcycle powered by an air-cooled 850 cc, 90-degree transverse V-twin, good for 80 hp at the crank.
The styling of the V85 harks back to the Guzzi rallye-raid motorcycles that dominated world rallies in the mid-eighties. Stripped to the bones, with only the most necessary parts finding place on the machine, these rally bikes of yore presented a fearsome sight. Which is precisely what the V85 concept aims to bring back. It looks the part as well, with twin round headlamps incorporating a horizontal slash of LED DRLs. It gets an offset monoshock on the right with an upswept exhaust on the other side. The V85 also features a shaft drive, as well as spoked wheels, with the front one possibly a 21″ unit.
Moto Guzzi is positioning the V85 concept as the harbinger of its new range of adventure motorcycles, slated to hit the roads beginning 2021. As such, the company aims to provide the concept with low-end, usable power and low kerb weight.
The firm said: ‘It is a motorcycle dedicated to trips, which have always been the heritage of Moto Guzzi in their purest and most original manner, which bring to mind the epic and adventurous rally raids of the 1980s, a world from which it has inherited style, charm and emotion, but which has been designed to face both everyday and long-range roads, according to the most up-to-date requirements and the forthcoming ventures.
‘The V85 pays tribute to the great adventurous trips and is dedicated to those who, despite never ceasing to dream of adventurous journeys, are seeking out a motorcycle capable of returning that spirit to their everyday journeys.’
