Takaaki Nakagami has completed six Moto2 seasons so far, and now he’s been signed up by LCR Honda to take enter the top level of the sport, the MotoGP. On Honda Thanks Day event, Nakagami was greeted with his new livery for 2018 season.
Nakagami says, “Honda, Idemitsu and LCR prepared this special surprise for me and the new livery is absolutely fabulous. I am sure that all the fans liked it too and it was nice to spend the day [at Motegi] with Marc, Dani and all the HRC riders.”
The MotoGP race bikes are very different from that of the Moto2. They are much more powerful and require full participation of the rider to make ends meet. Nakagami has ridden the Honda RC213V for two test sessions so far and he’s quite happy and confident about it.
He says, “The power is incredible. Every time I jump on my new bike I can not believe the potential. And the thing I like most is the seamless gearbox. Great feeling with Cal. He has a lot of experience with the MotoGP machine. I think I’m very lucky to have him in the garage for next season. I will try to learn as much as possible from him. And he is also a very funny person.”
The test season for the 2018 MotoGP is currently on the winter break and will resume in January. We are expecting Nakagami to get back on the RC213V in Sepang for the test session sometime during the end of next month.
