The wait is over. Ducati’s latest offering has created a storm worldwide and there were many of us who were waiting patiently for the Scrambler to arrive here in the UAE. The Ducati Scrambler is a radically different product from Italian company and turns things down a notch from the company’s hyper performance and hyper technological motorcycles launched in the recent years.
The Icon version, in yellow and red, is joined by three others – Urban Enduro, Full Throttle and Classic – each offering its own style and performance-related interpretation of the Scrambler spirit. The Urban Enduro, with its “Wild Green” paintjob, is for enduro style enthusiasts and ready to switch from city streets to country backroads in an instant. The Full Throttle is for riders enthralled by the flat-track racing world who have a penchant for pushing things to the limit. And the Classic is for devotees to details and a 1970s look who want the uncompromising riding pleasure and comfort of a modern-day bike.
The Ducati Scrambler range is powered by a relatively simple 2-valve per cylinder 803cc air-cooled engine that pumps out 75bhp of power and 68Nm of torque. This adds to its retro charm. It might look like a small motorcycle but it isn’t. Having seen it at the Dubai showroom, I was surprised at how comfortable it felt even though I’m taller than usual. With a bit of handlebar adjustment, it can be a perfect fit for taller riders.
Standard equipment on all versions includes a steel tank with interchangeable aluminium side panels, headlight with glass lens, LED light-guide and interchangeable aluminium cover, LED rear light with diffusion-light, LCD instruments with interchangeable aluminium cover, machine-finished aluminium belt covers, 18’’ front, 17’’ rear wheels, under-seat storage compartment with USB socket.
The Classic version gets Spoked aluminium wheels, front and rear aluminium mudguards, vintage design seat, fuel tank with black stripe, high plate support, dedicated logo.
Ducati’s showroom in Dubai has sold out its first batch of Scramblers and the second batch will make it to the UAE sometime in April. From what the salesperson told me, there are around 80 people eagerly waiting in line for a test ride and with so much interest for the Scrambler, looks like Ducati will be selling quite a handful of them.
