Indian Motorcycles has released a recall notice which states that it is recalling 2,096 units of different models because of a headlight issue. This recall is limited to the American market.
The report suggests that the affected 2017 and 2018 models include Chief, Chief Classic, Chief Dark Horse, Chief Vintage, Chieftain, Chieftain Classic, Chieftain Dark Horse, Chieftain Elite, Chieftain Limited, Springfield, and Springfield Dark Horse. These models may have been fitted with the European spec headlight rather than the American Spec one.
Both these headlights definitely serve their purpose of existence, illuminate what’s ahead, but apparently, they differ in their specs. The European spec one doesn’t fulfil the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment”, therefore they have to be replaced by the correct American spec one.
Indian Motorcycles will contact and notify the customers of the affected models and the headlights will be changed without any charge. Since the number of motorcycles affected is quite large, hence the entire recall process will take some time.
