Silverstone remains quite occupied throughout the year as it has to host MotoGP, British Superbike Championship and Formula One. Being a popular track, it wasn’t getting good feedback from MotoGP racers. And therefore, the complete track is going to have a new layer of asphalt.
In the last MotoGP season, a few MotoGP racers complained about a few bumpy sections of the Silverstone circuit. Among those riders was Cal Crutchlow. He said, “The bumps are really bad. The track is a lot bumpier this year than last year. Last year we could maybe brake later and not go over them as fast, but they are bigger too. The surface is shinier. We want the place resurfaced and we’ve wanted it resurfaced for the last five years but it’s difficult to try and convince them.”
The feedback has been taken seriously by the authorities and they’ve decided to lay down new asphalt over the entire circuit rather than a few deteriorating sections. The work is set to commence soon. The 2018 MotoGP race at Silverstone will be held on the newly laid out track.
