A couple of days ago we reported about Alta Motors planning to unveil an ‘R’ variant of its Redshift MX, and now it’s become a reality. The firm has officially revealed the 2018 Redshift MXR.
Alta Motors has given its all to make a proper electric motocross bike which would, hopefully, satisfy the needs of professional riders and racers. The Redshift MX was itself a pretty capable motorcycle but, like anything else in this world, it wasn’t perfect. So, with its new 2018 Redshift MXR, Alta Motors has tried to improve on the negatives of the earlier model.
The new 2018 Redshift MXR gets a boost in the power and torque figures. It produces 50 bhp of max power and 56.94Nm of peak torque. On top of this increase, Alta Motors has successfully managed to reduce the weight of the new bike by 3.62kg. So, the 2018 Redshift MXR weighs 117.48kg. To achieve this, Alta Motors has opted for lighter WP AER forks at the front. Other mechanical changes include a new set of brakes by Brembo and wheels by Warp 9.
Alta Motors has also worked on the battery pack of the new Redshift MXR. It claims to have a better heat dissipation system. The recharge time of the pack has also been reduced by 30 minutes over the standard variant; it takes 1.5 hours (on a 220V supply) to get fully charged.
For the extreme riders, there’s an overclocked mode on the new 2018 Redshift MXR. This mode allows the rider to utilise the full potential of the bike’s electric motor. Even though the new battery pack of the bike has got better heat management, and more power and torque, using the bike on overclocked mode for too long will obviously going to drain out the pack much sooner than expected.
The new 2018 Redshift MXR is a good upgrade over the standard variant of the bike for people who want to extract out that much more and push the limits on a motocross track or whatever. Even with these upgrades, the price hasn’t been hiked a lot. The new MXR is available at USD 11,995 MSRP.
